Bellows Falls Historical Society Formed in the 1960's, the Historical Society has about 190 members. The Historical Society maintains the interior of the Adams Grist Mill Museum, located near the railroad on the North corner of the Square. The Mill was built in 1831. The structure houses much of its original equipment, including all the grain elevators and storage bins. Implements from the Vermont Farm Machinery Company are also stored in the building, as well as household articles, antique signs, and hand tools used by various craftsmen. The original sleigh for the Mill, as well as a family sleigh are on exhibit, all belonging to the Adams Family. This Museum is run by volunteers and is kept open on weekends from 1-3 during the summer through October. It is also open during the Bellows Falls Alumni Weekend. The Bellows Falls Historical Society's collection of archival materials of Bellows Falls memorabilia is temporarily housed in the Rockingham Free Public Library. The Historical Society's collection of Hetty Green furnishings is on exhibit in the Library Museum. Annual Dinner in the Fall. Membership Dues:.......$10 regular, $15 couple, $5 senior................$100 lifetime. Donations gratefully accepted for Grist Mill electricity-sponsorships. In Nov 2004, Village Square Booksellers held a benefit to add an alarm system to the Grist Mill with Charles Slack, author of Hetty: The Genius and Madness of America's First Female Tycoon. The proceeds from the dinner & 20% from book sales came to a $735 donation to the Historical Society.
