Sat Dec 17, 2-4 pm- American Girl Club  http://www.villagesquarebooks.com/event/american-girl-club-2

Sun Dec 19, 1pm: New England author Neil Goodwin will talk about his new book, We Go as Captives. Goodwin's book is the first book of its kind on the Royalton Raid - with no warning and in almost complete silence, a war party of 265 Canadian Mohawks and Abenakis, led by five British and French-Canadian soldiers, materialized from the forest at dawn. They moved so fast and so quietly there spread the alarm. Prisoners were taken, and the town of Royalton was burned to the ground. The author, Neil Goodwin, clearly worked hard to understand the perspectives of the Abenaki and Kahnawake Mohawks as well as others.   http://www.villagesquarebooks.com/event/neil-goodwin-we-go-captives

Stones Into Schools: Promoting Peace with Education in Afghanistan and Pakistan. by Greg Mortensen
The author of the #1 bestseller" Three Cups of Tea" offers the continuing story of this determined humanitarian's efforts to promote peace through education. Filled with rich, personal stories and insights into the Middle East, this book is an inspiration--and a call to action. In this dramatic first-person narrative, Greg Mortenson picks up where "Three Cups of Tea" left off in 2003, recounting his relentless, ongoing efforts to establish schools for girls in Afghanistan.

Natural History: The Ultimate Visual Guide to Everything on Earth

Giving a clear overview of the classification of our natural world-over 6,000 species-"Natural History" looks at every kingdom of life, from bacteria, minerals, and rocks to fossils to plants and animals. Featuring a remarkable array of specially commissioned photographs, "Natural History" looks at thousands of specimens and species displayed in visual galleries that take the reader on an incredible journey from the most fundamental building blocks of the world's landscapes, through the simplest of life forms, to plants, fungi, and animals.

Snowmen All Year
In this lighthearted, funny follow-up to the previous Snowmen bestsellers, our young narrator dreams of a non-melting snowman friend who joins him for all of the year's events. They ride a roller coaster together, dive into a swimming pool in the summer, watch the Fourth of July fireworks, and trick-or-treat on Halloween. A child imagines what it would be like if a snowman, made of magical snow, could be a companion throughout the year. Pat's note: Just in time for the first snowfall of the season in BF.

Young children all know the Mother Goose rhyme of the kittens who have lost their mittens, but they've never seen it illustrated with so much energy, beauty, and flair. Preschoolers will delight in these cuddly kittens as they frolic outside in the falling leaves, get their whiskers sticky while eating a just-baked apple pie, and do the washing-up under Mama Cat's watchful gaze.   BELLA's PICK    Tell us Bella sent you to buy this one and get 20% off this title!

Three Quarters Dead by Richard Peck

Tale of Applebeck Orchard by Susan Wittig Albert   After his haystack is torched, Mr. Harmsworth barricades the common path through his orchard. But witnesses--both human and animal--claim a ghost perpetrated the deed. And the ghost has a message that Miss Potter hopes to figure out.  Pat's note: Mystery novels always make a great stocking stuffer - we have several different ones by Wittig, plus 2 cabinets full of mystery novels to choose from - just the perfect gift!

Real Murders by Charlaine Harris Though a small town at heart, Lawrenceton, Georgia, has its dark side--and crime buffs. One of whom is Aurora Roe Teagarden, a member of the Real Murders Club. It's a harmless pastime--until one of the Club's members is killed. Pat's note: this is a new hardcover book by the author of the Sookie series- we also have mass market paperbacks books of hers in stock.

Juliet Naked by Nick Hornsby Nick Hornby returns to his roots-music and messy relationships-in this funny and touching new novel which thoughtfully and sympathetically looks at how lives can be wasted but how they are never beyond redemption. Annie lives in a dull town on England's bleak east coast and is in a relationship with Duncan which mirrors the place; Tucker was once a brilliant songwriter and performer, who's gone into seclusion in rural America-or at least that's what his fans think. Duncan is obsessed with Tucker's work, to the point of derangement, and when Annie dares to go public on her dislike of his latest album, there are quite unexpected, life-changing consequences for all three.
Nick Hornby uses this intriguing canvas to explore why it is we so often let the early promise of relationships, ambition and indeed life evaporate. And he comes to some surprisingly optimistic conclusions about the struggle to live up to one's promise.
