Reviews by Orianna Baez

I guess I would label myself a "book whiz", often going through 4 books in a month (hey, I have no TV!). I'm the Director of the 21C Afterschool Program in the Bellows Falls Middle School. We are currently running a nifty Book Club with our students, and I hope that my suggestions are helpful for those who need a little nudge on what to read!

We all remember those "bad days" in middle school. The taunting, the awkward changes and most of all, dealing with friends. Nathan Abercrombie, the main character of this book has truly just experienced a rotten day; after being dissed in the cafeteria by the most popular girl in school and subsequently getting his pride shattered, he slowly starts feeling the wrath of being a teen. The day does not get any better after being picked last in gym class (the ultimate doom), and having his teacher get upset with him, he decides he's had enough! He meets Abigail, who suggests he visit her uncle Zarlo who is scientist and who has invented a potion to rid people of emotions...but something goes terribly awry and Nathan gets more than what he bargained for. A whimsical and at times laugh out loud read, this book captures the raw emotions we've all felt in our adolescence. You will enjoy it.
